![]() Urban sprawl has really encroached on the tanks habitat. Tanks shine in open field combat and unfortunately not much combat is fought that way any more. IMO the jury is still out and the age old battle of defensive armor verse offensive weapons is constantly evolving and changing. We have yet to see a modern western MBTs with APS vs modern man portable ATGMs. The boneyard you are referring to are IED kills. The tanks in Ukraine are Soviet relics going up against the best modern western ATGMs. In Afghan there were several in the blowed up pile at Leatherneck, and I have photos somewhere of 5 that were toasted in Iraq at Kalsu alone stacked in the bone pile. Even as fast as an Abrams will go (much higher than advertised) it’s still a relic of wars of the past.Īn example of current is look at how Russian armor is getting creamed by a small unit running around with an anti tank weapon. ![]() I was a 19K and loved the job and machine but as the wars have gone on and battlefield tactics have changed they aren’t as useful as they were even in Desert Storm. It’s been proven time and time again in the last 20 years. Tanks have no place on the modern battlefield. ![]() The USMC was dumb for giving up it's armor
